Nicolas Lecocq – Founder of OceanWP

My name is Nicolas Lecocq, the founder of OceanWP and a WordPress lover. Right now, I live in a small city in France close to Geneva.

I tried some CMS like Joomla and Drupal before but when I found WordPress, it made my life much easier. It is not only a simpler solution but also keeps me involved, thanks to the awesome community.

The Journey Began

Before WordPress, I only wanted to create a blog. Back then, most WordPress themes were not responsive, so I made mine responsive myself by playing with the code. Because I loved doing it so much,  I started to think “Why should I not create my own theme”.

In my opinion, WordPress is the best CMS right now and will probably maintain that position for a long time.

The Need for OceanWP

Before creating themes, I was creating websites and when I was doing that I found some issues that were related to themes. When clients hired me for their projects, I had to spend a lot of time searching for the best theme for those projects.

The problem was that when I switched from theme to theme, I had to study its features and very often I found themes that I thought were suitable but with time I found out that they weren’t.

Keeping this problem in my mind, the idea of creating my own theme and offering it for free on the WordPress repository started to cook. This way, users don’t need to worry anymore about theme licenses or missing features.

Users are now able to create amazing and complex (or simple) websites easily with OceanWP that I’m really proud of.

Of course, you can extend my theme with paid add-ons, but the way I see it, it’s that users like to support a product they love because they see how hard we work to make it better every day.

Since my team is distributed around the globe. I don’t have any pictures. However, here is my workstation.

Advice for Business Owners

The one advice I would like to give to anyone who wants to start their own business is that always listen to your customers. They use your product in different ways that you probably don’t know about and when they like it, they give you useful feedback and ideas to improve it. Later you will have so many ideas that you will find it hard to implement all of them.

WordPress & Beyond

From what I see, WordPress is here to stay. There are so many things you can do with WordPress and with such a welcoming community, WordPress can only get better and better.

My Love for the WordPress Community

I try to be present for my community through my Facebook group and I always listen to people when they have an issue with my product or if they would like to see something improved.

Customer’s feedback is very important to me and thanks to them, OceanWP is used by more than 500,000 users around the world. I still cannot believe it, and it is all thanks to them, so thank you.

How I Keep Myself Updated

I read many blogs related to WordPress like WP Tavern, WPMU DEV, Torquemag to keep myself updated with new competitors and technology and adjust my theme accordingly.

I Have a Life Other Than the Work

I love spending time with my family and friends. I usually go to some bars or restaurants to have a good time. I know it’s not very original but simple things are best. 🙂

I also love to travel. So far, my best destination was Los Angeles. I was there for 3 months last year and it was unforgettable. I met so many great people and had nice things to do. I think I will probably return this year if the global situation gets better.

Spread The Love!
