I am Trey Gardner, founder of GreenGeeks, living in sunny Santa Monica, California. I have been in the web hosting business since 1999 and have worked for and helped build and grow 8 web hosting companies, many of which were sold to bigger companies.
The Journey Began
In 2008, I decided that I would start my own web hosting business that was much more than just a web hosting business. That’s where my idea of being the most environmentally friendly web hosting provider was born.

There were a ton of competitors to GreenGeeks when we first started, but there were almost no web hosting providers who were environmentally friendly.
I learned about the impact that web hosting has on the environment and it was at that time I decided to venture out and work on building one of the best environmentally friendly web hosting providers on the planet. We have since challenged many of our competitors to go green.

We actually do not have a centralized office. We have a global workforce, with staff in over 8 different countries.
Advice for Business Owners
The best advice I can give is to find a niche that you know well and own it. You will increase your chances of being successful and enjoy what you do for as long as you’re doing it.

My Love for the WordPress Community
WordPress is something we care about deeply which is why we are an active global WordCamp sponsor. We continue to provide resources to WordPress to help it grow. We’ve attended 30+ camps in 2019 and have sponsored even more and we plan to continue our involvement in 2020 and beyond.
How I Keep Myself Updated
Aside from attending WordCamps myself, I speak daily to our staff who are involved with WordPress and our partners to keep myself updated on what’s happening.
I Have a Life Other Than the Work
I lead a life that is pretty normal actually. I take pleasure in simple things. I love spending time with my kids and traveling with them.
